The Lake Temiskaming Tour by ATV
The Lake Temiskaming Tour region offers several options for quad and ATV enthusiasts in both provinces. The forestry industry has created thousands of logging roads and paths that are perfect for riding. In some regions, organizations have been developed in order to identify and promote the trails. Elsewhere, it is the locals who truly understand the full possibilities of these trails: one must look to them to revel in their knowledge.
Here is an overview of the options for an ATV holiday around Lake Temiskaming.
Témiscamingue ATV Club
The Témiscamingue ATV Club maintains over 400 kilometres of trails between the communities of Guerin and Belleterre. Starting from the Town of Temiscaming and traveling north, you will find beautiful lookouts that will reveal the beauty of Lake Temiskaming and Lake Kipawa. Secondary trails allow you to visit downtown Ville-Marie, where you can spend the night or have a lovely, authentic meal in the French bistros. The trail continues towards eastern Témiscamingue, and includes waterfalls, beautiful forests and covered bridges.
To the north, the trail will take you to Angliers, where you can discover the dry-docked T. E. Draper, a 100-tonne tugboat, and the Gideon shipyard, a reconstruction of a logging camp from the 1930’s-1940’s.
Mattawa Region
The Mattawa region has developed a 300-kilometre Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System (VMUTS), which lies between the ancient Algonquin highlands and Laurentian Mountains, and is bordered by the Mattawa and Ottawa rivers. The landscape is picturesque, and the steep terrain provides advanced riders with the opportunity to push their limits.
It is also possible to travel along easier paths through pine forests and valleys. There are several companies that offer services for adventurers.
The municipal council of Mattawa and its surrounding communities have passed by-laws allowing ATVs on their streets, thus enriching the experience for riders.
Marten River region
This region of Ontario is known for its forest industry and for the Marten River Provincial Park, as it has an impressive reconstruction of a 19th century logging camp. The forest industry has left behind hundreds of kilometers of trails in this area, which are ideal for ATV touring. Marten River Lodge Outfitters, located south of Lake Temagami, specializes in guided ATV tours, a service unique to Northern Ontario. If you don’t have your own all-terrain vehicle, the center offers rentals that can carry up to five passengers. These machines are comfortable and fun to drive. Marten River Outfitters provide access to many trails so you can discover little-known locations. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover the great pine forests of Temagami with friends and family!
